An employee of the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services has been arrested for stealing from the department by making fraudulent purchases totaling about $30,000.
Louisiana state police say 34-year-old Derice J. Augustus of Baton Rouge, has been charged with various counts of theft, possession of stolen goods and malfeasance in office.
Charges were filed after the Louisiana Division of Administration notified police Tuesday that during an audit they discovered what appeared to be fraudulent purchases made on a LaCarte Purchasing Card issued to an employee of the Louisiana Department of Child and Family Services.
The card was assigned to Derice Jermaine Augustus. One of the questionable purchases was an automatic dishwasher delivered to Augustus' house on Comal Avenue in Baton Rouge.
Other items allegedly purchased by Augustus included DVD movies, television sets, IPads, IPhones and MAC books. The purchases were made between January 2012 and December 2013.
