SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Shreveport police say a driver tried to beat the train at a West Shreveport railroad crossing Wednesday morning and lost.

It happened around 9 a.m. on Claiborne Avenue near Mansfield Road. Police say 60-year-old Judy Henderson drove her 1999 GMC Sierra pick-up truck into the path of a Union Pacific train in an apparent attempt to beat the locomotive across the tracks.

The truck collided with the train, sending Henderson to University Health Shreveport. Her injuries are said to be non-life-threatening.

While there are no crossing arms at the crossing, police say all emergency warning devices appeared to be fully operable at the time of the accident.

The train, consisting of just two engines, was estimated to be traveling at 25 mph when it went into full emergency brake mode, but still was unable to avoid striking Henderson's vehicle.

Police say Henderson is likely face citations. The crash remains under investigation.

Claiborne Avenue was shut down as crews worked to clear the wreckage.
