Ashdown woman dead after head-on collision in Caddo Parish

Posted: Updated:

An Ashdown woman is dead after a head-on collision between a car and a FedEx tractor trailer in Caddo Parish Monday night.

Caddo Parish deputies say it happened around 11 p.m. on U.S. Highway 71 in Ida near the Louisiana-Arkansas border. Deputies say 25-year-old Angie Buckliew, of Ashdown, was driving a Nissan Altima when it crossed the center line into oncoming traffic. The Altima then collided with a FedEx tractor trailer head on.

Deputies say Buckliew was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies say alcohol is believed to be a factor. Officials say it appears that Buckliew was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the accident.

The driver of the FedEx truck, 60-year-old Michael Lutz, of Benton, Arkansas, was not injured.

Arkansas State Police, Life Net EMS and volunteer firemen from Doddridge, Arkansas, Bright Star, Texas and Bloomberg, Texas also responded to the accident.

Caddo Parish deputies are still investigating this crash.

The southbound lanes on Highway 71 were blocked for a few hours as crews cleared the scene. During that time, another accident occurred on Highway 71 when a car rear-ended an 18-wheeler. Deputies say it was a minor accident.
