TEXARKANA, TX (KSLA) -

The clerk told police that a man came in to the Triple J on Highway 59 around 10:30 p.m. as she was closing the store and asked for a cigar. When she went behind the counter and asked for his identification, she says she looked up and saw that he was holding a gun. He told her to open the drawer, but as she began to do so, she says he shot her.

Police say the bullet passed through the left side of the clerk's waist.

The gunman fled the store on foot and has not been located or identified.

The clerk was taken to CHRISTUS St. Michael's hospital and has since been released. Police say it is unknown if anything was taken.
