SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

An elderly woman who was taken to the hospital Monday afternoon after a parking lot crash in Shreveport has died.

Margie Shockley, 78, succumbed to her injuries Tuesday morning at University Health Medical Center after a chain-reaction crash at the Portico Shopping Center on Youree Drive. Police said Shockley and her husband Jimmy, 78, hit a 2007 GMC Yukon, which hit a 2011 Honda Odyssey which in turn hit a 2012 Ford Expedition.

Police believe Jimmy Shockley, who was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe, may have blacked out briefly, triggering the accident. Both man and wife were initially taken to Willis Knighton Hospital, but Margie Shockley was later moved due to the severity of her injuries, including a broken bone.

The GMC and Honda were parked, unoccupied. The Ford was parked with one occupant who was not injured, police said. They do not believe alcohol was a factor in the accident, but a mandatory toxicology test was run on Jimmy Shockley.

Police have not released Jimmy Shockley's condition. The case is still being investigated.
