SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A Shreveport business is making a generous gesture to help pay final respects to a woman who died tragically earlier this week.

59-year-old Julia Bay was struck and killed by a van Wednesday as she rode her motorized scooter on the intersection of Jordan and Creswell streets.

Bay did not have insurance.

David Henderson with Heavenly Gates says he decided to try to raise the $1,500 needed for Julia Bay's cremation after meeting with her husband, who is 75 years old and in the hospital at the time of the accident.

"There were tears in his eyes and he stated that he just didn't have anything," says Henderson.

Henderson says Mr. Bay cannot afford to have a service for his wife and asked the funeral home to help. "We want to do our Christian duty. As Christians we should reach out and help those who are in need," Henderson says.

If you would like to make a donation toward the funeral arrangements of Julia Bay you can do that through the Heavenly Gates Funeral home at 1339 Jewell St. in Shreveport. For more information you can call 318-222-8010.
