SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A woman driving a motor scooter died Wednesday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle at an intersection in east Shreveport.

Julia Bay, 59, of the 500 block of Jordan Street was struck by a white van just before 1 p.m. as she negotiated the crossway at Jordan Street and Creswell Avenue. She was riding an electric scooter heading east on Jordan Street when she was struck, police said.

Bay was taken to University Health Shreveport, where she later died of injuries.

The driver of the van, Charlie Patero, 46 of Shreveport, was headed south on Creswell Avenue and turning onto Jordan Street at the time of the collision, police said. They do not believe Patero was drunk, but had toxicology tests run as required by law. They do not expect charges to be filed against him.

The accident is still under investigation.
