SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Police made an arrest Tuesday morning in connection with the case of an SUV missing from a used car dealership since January.

Corrections officers found the dark green GMC Yukon Denali parked in a driveway at the home of Larry Nichols, 40, in the 2011 block of Wyoming Circle in Shreveport. It had been missing from Elite Auto on Youree Drive since January. U.S. Marshals and Shreveport police assisted in the arrest.

The corrections officers were following up on a man who was on probation, and they had received information that he was driving around in a stolen vehicle, said SPD spokesman Cpl. Marcus Hines. Nichols has been charged with violation probation and illegal possession of stolen things, according to the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office.

"They were following up on a [man on probation] and had been given information that he was driving around in a stolen vehicle," said SPD spokesman Cpl. Marcus Hines.

Officers with the Louisiana Department of Corrections, in the Probation and Parole division, made the arrest. Nichols refused to come out of the house where the SUV was parked.

"We had received information from a confidential person that he may have been in possession of a stolen vehicle," said Probation and Parole supervisor Bill Tuggle. "Officers responded to investigate and that's when they found the alleged stolen vehicle."

Nichols has been on active probation since January 2013 for drug possession and illegal possession of stolen property, Tuggle said, adding that he is not aware of what Nichols has previously stolen. Further investigation may result in additional criminal charges being added with regard to the stolen SUV, he said.

"We tried to contact him to question him, but he refused my guys entry into his residence which is a big 'no no,'" Tuggle said. "Initially we didn't want to take any kind of forced entry to take him without talking to a judge."

Caddo Judge Craig Marcotte signed off on a warrant to bring Nichols into custody. Police had to force their way through the door of Nichols's house. After a scuffle with police, the suspect was treated for possible injuries and then taken off the scene in handcuffs in a police wagon.

"They went in and got him and he was fighting with them," Hines said. "He started trying to kick out the windows in one of their cars."

As of Tuesday afternoon, Nichols was listed as an inmate in the Caddo Parish Correctional Center with no bond.
