A woman is charged with theft after allegedly driving her boyfriend near homes where he stole electric meters, Giles County investigators said Monday.

Lynn Louise Spalding, of Athens, AL, was arrested early Saturday morning and released on $1,000 bond. Deputies also took out warrants for her boyfriend, 39-year-old Anthony Scroggins.

A deputy first spotted Spalding after being called to a suspicious vehicle around Nancy Green Ridge and Crooked Hill roads.

The deputy soon saw a car driving in that area, then parked outside a home.

A man was also walking along the side of the road with a flashlight, but ran back into the woods once he saw the patrol car, the department said.

The deputy then confronted Spalding in her car after finding burglary tools, a meter box and an electrical box that had been stolen from a home.

Spalding said she had dropped off her boyfriend with the bag of tools, and was supposed to pick him up in a few minutes.

Spalding was taken into custody, and the car was towed because of registration violations, authorities said. Scroggins is still wanted.
