JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Jackson family jumped from a window of their home to escape an early morning fire Sunday.

J.F.D. Chief Fire Investigator Greg Travis said 13 people, two adults and 11 children, leaped to safety from a bedroom window.

They returned to their home at 1151 North West Street Sunday afternoon to salvage what they could. Fire crews responded to the scene shortly after 4 a.m.

Travis said the front porch was fully involved in flames when units arrived. Two cars were also badly damaged.

"Some of the adult occupants who were here, they did receive some bruises and some cuts as they were getting out of the house at the time. The children that were here, they all escaped without any injuries," said Travis.

The fire is believed to have started in the front of the home.

The Red Cross was on scene Sunday afternoon and is assisting the family with temporary housing.

The fire's cause is still under investigation.
