Gents end losing skid against Texas College

The Centenary baseball team snapped an eight-game losing streak on Wednesday evening with a doubleheader sweep over Texas College. The Gents (5-10) claimed the opener 2-1 and finished off the sweep with a 2-0 victory in the night cap.

Centenary picked up strong pitching performances from Paul Arcement and Layton Tromba in the twinbill. The pair each logged complete game efforts. Arcement tossed 7.0 innings allowing a run on four hits with a pair of strikeouts while Tromba pitched 9.0, scoreless frames and scattering just one hit in the outing while fanning five batters.

Chris Jones and Michael Schimpf each totaled two hits in the second contest accounting for four of the Maroon and White's eight hits. Aaron Quintanilla paced the Gents in the opener with two of the four hits in the affair.

Centenary plated the winning run in the first contest in the bottom of the seventh inning after the contest stood deadlocked since the second inning. Quintanilla drove in the winning run with a single to left field that pushed Christian Sebastien across the dish. The Gents struck first in the opener as Jones scored on a ground, but the Steers evened the score in the top of the second as Juan Mesa scored on a Caleb Searcy sacrifice fly.

The Gents pounded out eight hits in the final contest of the evening, but used timely hitting to record their two runs. Centenary etched its first run on the board in the bottom of the fourth as Schimpf singled to score Quintanilla.

The Maroon and White added an insurance run in the eighth as Jones scored on a Schimpf single to right field.

Centenary returns to action on March 11 as the Gents host LeTournea. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
