Shreveport man sentenced to life in prison for 2011 stabbing death

SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -

A Shreveport man convicted in the 2011 stabbing death of another local man has been  sentenced to life in prison.

Derrick Edwards, 36, was found guilty in January 2014 of second degree murder in the death of 27-year-old Tyrone Miles after a 2-day trial.

Police say Edwards stabbed Miles multiple times after a fight between family members that erupted into a brawl at a home on the 500 block of E. 74th. in Shreveport in June 2011.

Judge Brady O'Callaghan handed down the sentence Monday afternoon in Caddo Parish District Court.
