KSLA News 12 Editorial: Mar. 3rd-Upstanders Club

Today, I want to congratulate a teacher in Bossier Parish.

Robin Webb is a fifth grade teacher at Elm Grove Elementary School. She saw a problem, the problem of bullying, and came up with a unique way to solve it.

She invented the Upstanders Club. 12 kids who themselves had been bullied, but who now, together can stand up for themselves. There is strength in numbers. "If a kid is being bullied, and now they have five or ten people or one person or two people, then they don't feel so alone and it empowers them," says Webb.

Every principal, every school superintendent in the ArkLaTex should learn from Robin Webb. There should be an Upstanders Club in all of our schools.

I'm James Smith.

State Police Supt. Col. Mike Edmonson needs to address this inexcusable behavior directly and restore the public's confidence. He should be fully transparent in his investigation into the matter and should invite an outside entity to look into the matter.
