SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A head-on collision Saturday afternoon involving an SUV and a car in Southeast Shreveport sent 8 people to the hospital and resulted in the escape of a family pet.

According to SFD Assistant Chief Fred Sanders, it happened just after 5 p.m. at East 70th and Fern Ave.

Sanders says the injuries ranged from minor the serious. Shreveport police are investigating the cause of the accident.

A brown Chihuahua named "Toto" (pronounced two-two) escaped from the SUV following the accident and is believed to be lost in the area. Heavenly Frazier, who was among those injured in the wreck, says the dog took off when her son opened the passenger side door after the collision. Frazier and her son, who was also injured, are expected to be okay.

If Toto is found, KSLA News 12 has the contact information for the owner and will pass it on to the family. Call 222-1212 or email us at ksla@ksla.com, or send a message to the KSLA News 12 Facebook Page.
