Lumumba administration remembers late mayor

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Mayor Chokwe Lumumba's administration and others gather with residents to remember his life and work.

Hinds County Supervisor Kenneth Stokes organized the event at Battlefield Park in Jackson Saturday afternoon.

Ward Four Councilman De'Keither Stamps, Jackson Fire Chief Willie Owens , Interim Public Works Director Willie Bell and others spoke to the small crowd.

They talked about the late mayor's dedication to his work and citizens.

They also spoke of his ability to bring people of all races together to reach a common goal.

"I'm gonna miss a leader in the community and I'm gonna miss a leader in the government because he not only knew how to relate to people, but he know how to move people and the people would move with him," said Interim Public Works Director Willie Bell.

Other gatherings and programs of tribute to the mayor were also held across the city.
