While several events will go on rain or shine, the imminent storm has prompted a few cancellations, including the Mardi Gras Parade that was supposed to take place in downtown Phoenix.
As they hammer away at the final hour, organizers of the cultural celebration for the new LDS temple in Gilbert are hoping for the best, but expecting the worst.
"There are 12,000 youth in this show and then you add another 5,000 adults that are helping," said Rosanne Tidwell, the event's director. "We're going to have close to 17,000 people at the bottom of this basin."
Tidwell said rain or shine, the show will go on.
"I'm saying I love the rain, bring it in, but we're hoping for just a window," Tidwell said.
Tidwell said they'll take down their jumbotrons if it gets too windy and throw tarps over the equipment. She's hoping everybody else will come prepared, too.
"We've been sending out notes reminding everybody to make sure they have coats, bring parkas, whatever is going to take for them to stay warm," Tidwell said.
Other events Valley-wide are going on as scheduled. Runners picked up their race packets in Mesa for the Phoenix Marathon early Saturday morning. And Devoured, the food and drink festival in Central Phoenix, is serving up a cloudy day with a chance of meatballs.
"We've ordered extra tents, all restaurants will be tents, all wineries and breweries will be tented," said Devoured coordinator Margaree Bigler said.
Organizers for the two-day event at the Phoenix Art Museum say while they have the guests covered, folks should bring those warm clothes they've probably already stashed away.
"If you have a rain parka or some sort of rain gear that you can wear so you can actually hold your beer and wine and food, that is encouraged," Bigler said.
