SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Crawfish prices around the Ark-La-Tex are finally beginning to go down.  Prices in Shreveport currently range from around $6.99 per pound to as much as $8.99 per pound.

Robert Shaver, owner of Shaver's catering says the season started about 6 weeks later than usual because of the cold winter all over the state, causing a delay for the fishermen.

He says this happens about every four years or so but this is one of the latest starts to the season he has seen.  But, he says with the weather starting to warm up, prices are on their way down.

Shaver says "They had an inch and a half of ice on most of the ponds in South Louisiana for almost a three month period on and off. The weather is starting to move out.  We have maybe one or two cold nights this week. It's going to be great the rest of the time. It was great most of the last ten days. As that keeps happening, the price of crawfish is going to drop because the quality and quantity is going to get better."

Shaver says prices should come down by a dollar or so hopefully once per week on Tuesdays.
