The Trinity Valley women's basketball team clinched the programs 13th consecutive conference championship Wednesday night with a 119 to 54 win over Panola.
The championship took a back seat to a record setting performance.
Sophomore Shlonte' Allen broke the Trinity Valley single game scoring record at the buzzer. Allen hit a jumper as the shot expired, giving her 52 points in the game.
That broke the previous mark of 50 points set by Portia Hill back in 1988.
"I hit nine 3's from the left side and it was a hot spot," said Allen. "Coach was like 'Just stand there, don't move just stand in that spot.' So I stood there, and they kept giving me the ball."
Holding a record with such a storied junior college program, Allen hopes it's only the beginning.
"Coming from Arcadia (LA), a small town, it means a lot to come out here at Trinity Valley and play after a lot of big time players," said Allen. "Some in the NBA and overseas. It makes me feel good. It makes me feel like I could be next."
