GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -
A dog found in Greenville County with a mysterious old photo tucked inside his collar has found a new home.
The 2-year-old pit bull mix, nicknamed Soldier, was picked up by his new owner Sunday from Greenville County Animal Care.
Soldier was brought in by Animal Control as a stray after he was found along Bahan Street in Taylors on Jan. 13. While trying to figure out where he may have come from, animal control found an old black and white photo stuck inside his collar.
The photo was wedged between two pieces of canvas and was of a man leaning against a fence post, possibly holding a bag or with his knee propped up.
Animal Care posted updates on its Facebook page here in an attempt to reunite Soldier with his owner.
Animal Care said it received hundreds of calls about Soldier and after speaking with everyone interested in adopting him, they felt his new owner, Julie, was the best fit. They said Julie Hensley drove down from Virginia, through the snow, to meet Soldier and they hit it off well.
Soldier's new owner said she heard about his story through Facebook and has rescued pit bulls in the past, so she was excited to be the one who got to take him home.
And while Soldier has a new home, the photo found in his collar remains a mystery.
