School, road closures announced as winter weather moves in

Posted: Updated:
(KSLA) -

Several ArkLaTex schools have announced closures due to the winter weather headed into the area, including Bossier and Sabine Parishes in Northwest Louisiana and Carthage in East Texas. Timpson ISD has announced a 10 a.m. start time for Wednesday.

Some local colleges are also canceling evening classes. Click here for a continually-updated list of winter-weather related closures.

As the precipitation increases during the evening and overnight and temperatures drop, travel may become hazardous, especially on bridges and overpasses.

As a result, the Louisiana Department of Transportation has already taken steps to pretreat roads in hopes of maintaining priority routes. The following roads have been closed:

I-49 North, northbound and southbound lanes, from La. 1 to U.S. 71 in Caddo Parish

Benton Road (LA 3) Over KCS R/R in Bossier City Road

LA 154 over Lake Bistineau Bridge, in Bienville Parish
