Good afternoon, and welcome to a new, and still cold, week!

Here are a few stories we think you'll want to check out this afternoon:

1. Winter weather advisories will be in effect for the central and eastern portions of East Texas beginning at midnight tonight and continuing until 6:00am on Wednesday. The Counties are... Franklin, Titus, Morris, Cass, Camp, Wood, Upshur, Marion, Harrison, Gregg, Smith, Cherokee, Rusk, Panola, Shelby and Nacogdoches. Make sure to join Chief Meteorologist Mark Scirto this afternoon at 4, 5 and 6 for the very latest on the potentially icy weather.

2. We'll also have school closures on our site, and will be continually updating them as schools call in to let us know which ones are beginning early or which ones will be canceling classes altogether. You'll see that information scrolling across the bottom of the television screen during our newscasts, and you'll also see it on our website at this link.

3. Area TxDOT crews are preparing for the potentially icy road conditions tomorrow. TxDOT officials announced they will have six to seven trucks filled with a sand and gravel mixture in preparation for the icy conditions expected to hit the area Monday night and Tuesday.

4. A spokesman for the Gregg County Sheriff's Office said an elder with the Church of Wells was arrested on misdemeanor criminal trespass and resisting arrest charges in connection to a Jan. 31 incident in which he allegedly caused a disturbance at Sabine High School. Details here.

5. The Obama administration is giving another delay to business groups concerned about the health care law's requirement that larger firms cover their workers. The Treasury Department announced Monday that companies with 50 to 99 employees have an additional year to comply with the coverage mandate, until January 1, 2016.

6. Police are searching for two men suspected in the burglary of a North Tyler pharmacy. Around 3:09 a.m. Monday morning, officers were called to a reported alarm at the CVS Pharmacy at 1710 West Gentry Parkway. While officers were en route, the alarm company reported two people visible on security cameras at the store.

A $1,000 reward is being offered; 903-597-CUFF.

7. The USDA sent out tips today to help folks whose power goes out during upcoming weather events preserve their frozen foods as long as possible and avoid foodborne illness. Click here to see the list of tips. This is important for all of us, as we all spend many hard-earned dollars on groceries!
