SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Power has been restored for most of the nearly 5,000 AEP SWEPCO customers in Shreveport affected by an outage Friday afternoon, after a large tree fell and took down a power line just before 12:30 p.m.

Crews cut the tree up to clear it out of the roadway at Gilbert Dr. and Pierremont Rd. and power was restored for all but 180 customers as of 2:30 p.m.

There were nearly 5,000 without power at one point, including Fairfield Elementary, Shreve Island, Broadmoore and Captain Shreve. According to a Caddo schools spokesperson, power has been restored at all of the affected schools.
