SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Shreveport police and the United States Marshals Service are looking for a man they say viciously attacked three people with a hammer on Monday.

Police say the victims had just returned to a home in the 4700 block of Erin Lane around 10 p.m. Monday when they realized it had been broken into. As they tried to leave, police say 37-year-old Rodney Smith jumped out of hiding and attacked all 3 victims with a hammer.

During the attack, one of the victims was able to pin the hammer to the ground, but police say Smith picked up a brick and began striking the victim again.

Smith reportedly fled the scene in one of the victim's vehicle which was later recovered in Monroe, La.

Police say Smith has family ties to the Lake Providence, Louisiana; Forney, Texas; and Oak Grove, Louisiana areas and is to be considered armed and dangerous.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $600.00 reward for information leading to the arrest of Smith.  Contact Crime Stoppers at 673-7373 or www.lockemup.org
