SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

An age-old Korean tradition has made its way to Northwest Louisiana. The holistic approach to uterine health promises to treat several gynecological issues.

Jamie Allums describes the 'V-Steam' as a detoxifying facial for your nether regions. At her new Shreveport spa, 'Love Has No Disguise,' she offers the treatment along with the 'A-steam' which is used for treating prostate issues in men.

"Its detoxifying for the whole body. It helps to balance hormones," says Allum, "It can help to regulate irregular periods, ladies that are going through menopausal symptoms, hot flashes, night sweats, irritability, it also helps with hemorrhoids, to comfort hemorrhoids."

She says the treatment attracts males and females for its detoxifying benefits.

"We do have athletes that come for the detoxification purposes also for prostate and for anal health. We have a lot of men that come in with hemorrhoids."

The steam contains a combination of herbs that sound similar to the ingredients of a wizard's potion in a Harry Potter film with herbs like Mugwort, Wormwood and Blue Malva.

"Mugwort is good for suppressed menstruation so we have people that are needing to regulate their periods. We have a Fibroid formula, that contains Red Clover that promotes healing in skin. For men, we use hydrangea, which has been used in holistic health facilities for enlarged prostates."

So how does it work? After answering a series of questions, you're prepared to be steamed. Switching into traditional Korean dress, the "steamee" sits on the "steamer" to enjoy 30 minutes of what Allums describes as vaginal rejuvenation.

Dr. Srinivas Devrakonda of LSU Health Shreveport says several people have turned to a more holistic approach of overall health. He says the health benefits touted by the "V" steam or any non-conventional approach for that matter is still up in the air.

"When we talk about whether they've been proven it is difficult because for the non conventional approaches, we don't have sound evidence sound clinical evidence as the conventional approaches have, says Devrakonda,' 'Few complimentary approaches have proven evidence like acupuncture, or medication, deep breathing exercises they have some proof."

He also says they don't know what the active ingredients are in some herbs and botanicals which could lead to side effects. While every treatment has its cons, Jamie says women and men who have visited her spa say they can see and feel a difference.

"We go get our nails done together, we go get our toes done, why not come and get steamed together!"

The price for a typical session is $40.
