(CNN) - Toronto Mayor Rob Ford is making headlines again, this time for declaring Thursday to be Bob Marley Day.
Ford is apparently a big fan of the Jamaican reggae singer. Marley was born Feb. 6, 1945 and died in 1981.
Today would have been his 69th birthday.
Ford made the proclamation on the city of Toronto's website.
In it, ford said every year on Feb. 6, the city will honor Marley's legacy as an "influential musician, advocate for human rights and international ambassador of peace."
Ford has been in the news in recent months after admitting to smoking crack and drinking too much in the past.
The mayor has ignored calls for him to resign or enter rehab and has said he will run for re-election in October.
