TEXARKANA, TX (KSLA) -

A Texarkana, TX man is behind bars, accused of assaulting 2 police officers.

According to TTPD, officers were called to the 2400 block of West 11th St. around 7:30 p.m. Saturday for a report of a disturbance. During their investigation, officers attempted to arrest 33-year-old Gary Carson for family violence.

However, the officers say Carson started to fight when he was told he was under arrest, allegedly striking one of the officers in the back of the head with his fist and punching another in the chest. He then reportedly tried to run when he was sprayed with pepper spray. During the foot chase that followed, Carson is accused of picking up a log and threatening to hit officers with it.

Officers lost sight of him at some point. A K-9 search of the area in which he was last seen was unsuccessful.

About an hour later, the victim in the original family violence incident called 911 again.  She said that Carson had called her several times from his cell phone and threatened to blow up her house.

Officers later determined that Carson had eventually returned to the location of the original call on West 11th St.  He was arrested without incident at 1:19 a.m., charged with 2 counts of assault on a public servant, and taken to the Texarkana City Jail.
