SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A toppled lamp is blamed for a fire that damaged a Shreveport home Monday night, but the adult and child in the house escaped unharmed.

Firefighters were called to the home in the 2500 block of Lindholm St. just after 6 p.m. and found smoke and flames coming from the one-store wood-frame house. They were able to get the fire under control within 20 minutes.

Shreveport Chief of Special Operations and Safety Scott Wolverton says the home was occupied by one adult and a six year old child. The adult reported that the child notified her that the bedroom was on fire.  She went to the room and the bed was engulfed with flames and the home was filling up with smoke.

Both of them escaped the home at that time.  The child later told the investigator that she turned over a lamp with no shade on to the bed and the bulb ignited it.  The investigator was able to confirm this and the fire has been ruled accidental.  There were no injuries and the fire damaged was contained to the bedroom and the attic space above.
