One of two stolen Midway Elementary school prizes recovered

One of two bicycles have been recovered this weekend, after they were stolen from two Shreveport elementary school kids, who earned the bikes at school.

The bike was discovered by Leann Watkins Saturday night, "I'm very observant around my house when something's not right, I get involved in it," said Watkins and explained when she got home last night around 7:30 p.m., she immediately noticed something suspicious: a brand new bike had appeared near her house.

The bike matched the description of one of the two stolen from 8-year -old Collin Hall and his 10- year-old sister Kiya, the bike recovered belonged to Collin. Each won bikes for being the top readers at Midway Elementary back in December, but both bikes were taken from their home last Monday night. "I couldn't sleep, I couldn't rest until I found out who this bike belonged to," said Hall.

First she called police, then she found the Hall family's number in the phone book and called them. The bike was found just down this street from the Halls, literally right around the corner from where it was stolen. The family tells KSLA News 12 they feel forever grateful that Watkins took the effort to make sure the bike was returned to it's rightful owner.

"It really makes me feel like there are still good people out here," said Kiya and Collin's mom Patryce Hall, and for her that feeling has been reinforced for the second time in just a few days.

Just three days ago 3 KSLA News 12 viewers: Bossier Gun Range Owner Paul Murray, Bossier City resident Jennifer Netterville and Jerry Bowman, the eldest son of the late Caddo commissioner Joyce Boyman, all turned good samaritans, buying Collin and Kiya new bikes, helmets, and locks.

Now the Halls plan to pay it forward, by fixing up the stolen bike just recovered this weekend and then donating it back to Midway Elementary. "We were blessed that people came through to bless us with the new bikes, so we want to bless someone else with one," said Hall.
