BENTON, LA (KSLA) -

Accused killer Robert Bond has pleaded not guilty to a charge of second-degree murder in the death of his wife.

Bond, 53, is accused of killing Annie Bond in November. Her charred remains were found near Bayou Dorcheat in northern Webster Parish 4 days after she disappeared from her Bossier Parish home. The exact cause of her death has not yet been determined. She would have turned 47 on Thursday, January 16.

Police tracked Bond to a rest stop along I-10 near Gautier, Mississippi the day after she disappeared. They say Bond shot himself in the head as officers approached. He was returned to Bossier Parish after he was released from the hospital a month later.

Bond entered the plea Tuesday in District court, but reserved the right to change the plea pending the results of a sanity hearing scheduled for March 24.

He remains in custody on $1M bond at the Bossier Maximum Security Facility in Plain Dealing.
