TEXARKANA, TX (KSLA) -

A 19-year-old Texarkana, TX man shot Monday night during a burglary says he's lucky, because the bullet missed a major artery.

Now he's hoping police can track down the man who shot him after he interrupted him stealing from his car outside his Willis Street home. "Somebody was in my car and I come out here to check," recalls Thurston Robinson, "and I grabbed him and pulled him out of the car, and he shot me and took off running."

Robinson says the alleged burglar was trying to steal a radio out of the car.

"I want to know who did it," says Robinson's mother, Natasha Stephenson. "Who was in his car messing with his stuff? Want something, get up and go to work and get your own!"

It's not the first time Robinson has been attacked and injured in his own front yard. "I got stabbed out here in the yard. Somebody was trying to take our dog and I come out here to see what was going on."

Robinson lives with his grandmother, Katherine Richardson, who says it all has her on high alert, and worried about their safety. "I don't feel safe no more being here and I don't want him coming out by himself anymore after dark."

They say they'll be asking the city to install another street light in the area for better visibility and security.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Texarkana, Texas Police Department at 903-798-3116 or Texarkana Crime Stoppers at 903-793-STOP (7867).
