A police officer and stranded driver were injured Friday morning when their vehicles were hit by a swerving pickup.
The police officer had stopped to help a Toyota that had broken down in the middle turn lane of Fort Campbell Boulevard near Gate 1 of the post, Clarksville officer Natalie Hall said in an email.
The officer got in the center lane, turned on the cruiser's blue lights and waited for a tow truck to arrive.
The driver of a Ford pickup was heading north on the road, swerved to the right, went off the road, then came back across traffic and hit the rear of the Toyota, Hall said.
The crash pushed the Toyota into the police car. The stranded driver was taken to the hospital. The police officer complained of knee problems, and his supervisor took him to the hospital, Hall said.
The pickup driver was cited for reasonable care. Police are not yet releasing the names of the drivers involved.
