BLANCHARD, LA (KSLA) -

The recent cold snap did a number on local water systems as pipes froze up, then thawed out and burst. It even forced the cancellation of 3 Caddo Parish schools on Tuesday and left thousands of residents without water. Others had very low pressure.

Classes at Northwood High School, Donnie Bickham Middle School, and Blanchard Elementary are expected to resume on Thursday, according to a spokesperson for Caddo Parish schools.

Meanwhile, officials say they are working around the clock to get the water back on. Since Blanchard has just one water plant to serve the entire town, everyone is effected.

Blanchard is currently under a boil advisory, which will continue, possibly for a few days. That advisory will be lifted once the water system is restored and cleared by the Department of Health and Hospitals as safe to consume.

Town clerk Debra Smith says, "The gentleman are trying their best. They are working hard to get everything took care of. Please be patient, if you haven't contacted us and you have an issue, feel free to call us. The ladies are taking down the addresses and we hope to have it all done by today."

Residents in DeSoto Parish also experienced water service interruptions on Wednesday.
