SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A spokesman for Caddo schools confirms Youree Drive Middle school was placed on lock down Wednesday morning.

Victor Mainiero says it was prompted by the discovery of a 8th grade student in possession of a loaded "clip," technically referred to as a magazine, for a 9mm handgun. The school was searched and no weapon was found.

The school was placed on lock down at 9:30 a.m. The lock down was lifted just before 11 a.m.

KSLA News 12 asked Caddo Parish School Spokesperson Victor Mainero if anything more would be done to combat this issue.

"I want everyone to know that safety is a priority and so is security," says Mainero.

He says the district will stick with its zero tolerance policy, and also encourage students to speak up like they did today.

"We push to make our students feel comfortable in going to teachers and administrators," says Mainero.

Mainiero says the student was arrested by Shreveport police and will be suspended pending a hearing.
