LA Tech's Hamilton earns C-USA weekly honors

RUSTON, LA (KSLA/Louisiana Tech Sports Information) -

Louisiana Tech's Alex Hamilton earned the Conference USA Player of the Week award, announced by the league today, and the Louisiana College Basketball Player of the Week award, announced by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

The sophomore guard was instrumental in leading LA Tech to a thrilling overtime win at Oklahoma followed by a dominant home victory over Longwood which saw the Bulldogs set a program record for most points scored.

On Dec. 30 against the Sooners, Hamilton was having a subpar night with only six points to go along with five turnovers at the midway point of the second half.

However, his confidence never wavered as he erupted for a career-high 31 points, including 10 of the team's 17 overtime points.

In the Jan. 4 game versus the Lancers, Hamilton became more of a distributor than an attack-the-basket scorer, dishing out a career-best 12 assists along with 14 points to register his second career double-double.

Hamilton is the only Bulldog to have started all 15 games this season.  He ranks second on the team in scoring (15.0 per game), second in assists (3.6 per game) and second in steals (1.5 per game).

This marked the first conference and state weekly award for the Chipley, Fla. native.  He was also chosen as the College Sports Madness C-USA Player of the Week and High Major Player of the Week.
