SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Shreveport Police have identified the man killed on North Market St. Friday morning.

Police say it was 59-year-old Richard Wayne Joyner of Shreveport. It happened just after 6 a.m. in the 1900 block of North Market Street near Nelson Street just south of I-220.

Joyner was hit by at least 2 vehicles as he reportedly stood in the northbound lane of the roadway, according to SPD. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, information and evidence recovered at the scene of the crash suggests Joyner was initially struck by a pick up truck whose driver was traveling north along N. Market. After he was hit by the truck, they believe Joyner was struck a second time by another pickup truck. The drivers of both vehicles underwent routine toxicological testing as mandated by state law.

Though no exact cause of the accident has been established at this time, a statement from the Shreveport Police Department says that "Crash investigators suspect an intoxicating agent on behalf of the pedestrian, may have served as causative a factor in the crash."

"There is nothing that would indicate any sort of culpability on the part of those drivers, however the investigation is still moving forward," says SPD Chief Administrative Assistant Bill Goodin.
