Mardi Gras: 12th Night celebrations kick off Saturday

The countdown to Carnival is on! The official start to the Mardi Gras season begins on 12th Night, or January 6th, 12 days after Christmas.

But the Shreveport-Bossier krewes are starting a little early this year. 12th Night celebrations will get underway Saturday morning. The public is invited to party with 15 plus krewes this weekend.

The celebrations will begin with a morning mass at 9 a.m. on Saturday, January 4th at Saint Pius Catholic Church at 4300 North Market Street in Shreveport.

After mass, the krewes will head over to the Bossier Civic Center at 620 Benton Road to decorate their tables for the 12th Night Party. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.  The royal presentation is at 7 p.m. followed by the Thunder Pants concert from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Tickets are $40 each. The dress is 80's attire or Mardi Gras. The 12th Night Party is an annual meet and greet for all krewes to get together with the public and kick off Mardi Gras season.

KSLA News 12 is proud to be the official Mardi Gras partner of the Krewe of Gemini. This year, we will once again be broadcasting the Krewe of Gemini parade live on March 1st.
