SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

The effort to rezone the building of an iconic Shreveport restaurant for a funeral home business continues to see opposition from residents and business owners in the Highland Neighborhood.

Rosalind Patterson-Nelson has applied to have Don's Seafood rezoned. On Thursday, Shreveport's Metropolitan Planning Commission was scheduled to take up the matter, until Nelson asked for a deferment.

The entire city council chambers was filled with residents who say a funeral home business is not a good fit for the neighborhood because traffic is already an issue for the main street that would be used for processions, King's Highway.

Nelson says seeing all the opposition has prompted her to ask for a delay in the vote. "I would still like to have an opportunity to talk with them, I want to hear their concerns, but I need them to hear me," said Nelson.

Nelson believes traffic will not be an issue because the funeral home could schedule processions during non-peak hours.

The effort to stop the rezoning of the old Don's Seafood building began when a petition was circulated on Facebook.
