For most, New Years is a time to celebrate a new beginning. It's also a time to make -- or not to make -- New Year's resolutions.

"It's an on again, off again relationship," joked Marie Moon, a Lake Area mother of two.

Other Lake Area residents talked to KPLC's Monica Grimaldo and shared their New Year's resolutions and plans for 2014.

"My plans are to get fit and pay off my car note," said Shane Harris, who was spending a Sunday afternoon at Prien Lake Park.

Rhonda Armstrong, a Missouri native and now Lake Charles resident, says her New Year's Day involves a tradition of serving good luck foods.

"We do cornbread which resembles gold and money," said Armstrong. "We always do some type of pork. We just try to add something new to it and do a little bit of it every New Year's Day just to help us out through the New Year."

Out of all the resolutions Lake Area locals made, the number one resolution at the top of their list was to get to spend more time with family.

"I want to be with my kids as much as possible," said Moon. "Just a family-oriented year."

Erin Kleckley, a Lake Area resident, says she wants to spend more time with the new additions in her family.

"I have a brand new little niece and a second nephew coming in February," said Kleckley. "So hopefully I'll get to spend a lot more time with them."

Anna Dryer, who was on her way to Birmingham, Alabama to spend New Year's, says her family come first in 2014.

"My New Year's resolution is going to be … to not work as much," said Dryer. "I want to spend more quality time with my children who are growing up so fast. They need their mama, and I need them."
