Ruston crime spree leads to fatal officer-involved shooting
Police say 22-year-old Joseph Glenn was shot by an officer after he brandished a weapon as they approached him at the Hampton Inn in Ruston on Sunday.
RUSTON, LA (KSLA) -
Louisiana State Police and the Ruston Police Department are investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting.
Around midnight Saturday, Ruston officers received a 911 call about an armed robbery at a gas station on Louisiana Highway 33. Officers were later called to an aggravated kidnapping at the Walmart in Ruston.
After collecting evidence at the scene of both crimes and witnesses' description of the suspect, it was determined that Joseph Glenn, 22, of Grambling, was the prime suspect in both crimes, investigators said.
Ruston Police received a call informing them that Glenn was sighted at the Hampton Inn in Ruston. Officers responded to the hotel around 5:30 a.m. and confronted the suspect. He was given verbal commands to show his hands but did not comply. Glenn aimed a weapon at the officers, forcing them to shoot Glenn. He was critically injured and transported to Northern Louisiana Medical Center where he later died. It was discovered that the firearm Glenn was using was a realistic replica.
The investigation is being led by Louisiana State Police and the Ruston Police Department. Once it is completed, the report will be turned over to the Lincoln Parish District Attorney's office.
