(WMC-TV) - Family and friends remembered a Tupelo police officer Friday who was killed in the line of duty.
Patrol cars and officers traveled on bikes down the highway to honor Sgt. Gale Stauffer's at his funeral. Many of the roads in town were shutdown for the precession.
People who live in town that could not make the funeral were encouraged to line the streets by Tupelo's mayor; hundreds did just that.
"With the sadness, I could not be more proud of this city and the unity and togetherness that they've shown," said mayor Jason Shelton.
Joseph Maher, the second officer shot following Monday's bank robbery was upgraded to stable condition Thursday. Sources said Thursday that tips led investigators to Chicago to question someone there.
Governor Phil Bryant also sent an executive order Friday proclaiming a day of mourning for Sgt. Stauffer and asks that the state flag on all buildings to be flown at half-staff ending at sunset.
