Petition circulating to stop funeral home in Highland neighborhood

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Opposition is growing to the proposed rezoning of a former Highland neighborhood restaurant to become the location of a funeral home.

"My main concern is traffic. King's Highway already has a lot of traffic. Whenever that limo leaves the funeral home it would stop traffic," said Jolinda Redling, a resident of the Highland neighborhood.

Redling lives near the iconic and popular Don's Seafood, or what used to be Don's Seafood. It's now an empty building with a realty sign in front of it that reads "available." Another sign reads "Zoning change." It was placed there by Shreveport's Metropolitan Zoning Commission.

A grassroots effort is underway to stop the rezoning from happening. Redling posted a petition on the South Highland Neighborhood Association's Facebook page.

The MPC is slated to take up the matter on January 2nd.
