ARLINGTON, TX (KLTV) - Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett announced Friday morning that quarterback Tony Romo has undergone back surgery.

Romo will now be placed on injured reserve.

On Monday, ESPN reported that Romo was out for the rest of the season. The quarterback was complaining of back pain after the first half of the game against the Washington Redskins on Sunday.

Following Sunday's game, Romo said, "Whatever the kid did on that one play, it really sent something that didn't feel comfortable."

Kyle Orton will start as quarterback for the Cowboys against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. Orton has not started a game with the Cowboys since 2011.
