Posted: Updated:

Gregg County Sheriff Maxey Cerliano provided arrest and jail information regarding inmate William Brown.

William Brown, a 58 year old male, was arrested by the Longview Police Department on December 14, 2013 and booked into the Gregg County Jail.  Brown was charged with Theft under $1,500 enhanced by 2 previous convictions.  The inmate has been booked into the Gregg County Jail 16 times on various charges with 13 arrests in 2013.  Since May 2013, the inmate has been in the Gregg County Jail 197 days.

The inmate was housed in a separation cell on medical/suicide watch on December 21, 2013 and was observed by staff at least once every 15 minutes.  At approximately 11:15 pm, jail staff observed the inmate on the bunk in what appeared to be urine.  The inmate was alert and responsive but appeared to be having a medical issue.  The jail staff provided the inmate assistance and immediately called for jail medical staff to respond.  A medical assessment by medical staff determined vital signs outside of acceptable levels.  Dr. Lewis Browne was contacted and ordered the inmate to be taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center for further treatment.  The inmate was cleaned, dressed and taken to the hospital by jail van.  Brown was treated and continues to receive treatment at the hospital.  The inmate has been released from jail custody.

On December 16, 2013, a Magistrate's Order for Mental Health or Mental Retardation Examination on Brown was issued by Judge Arthur Fort.  The order was for an examination by Community Healthcore within 30 days and was pending when the inmate was sent to the hospital.  The inmate had a previous examination by Community Healthcore on August 20, 2013, while in jail.  Also, on December 5, 2013 the inmate was released from the jail on Bond with Conditions to report to Community Healthcore for treatment.  Brown was transported to Community Healthcore on that date by the Gregg County Sheriff's Office.

The Gregg County Sheriff's Office staff has been in contact with the inmate's family during various incarcerations.
