SFD battles second apartment fire in 12 hours

Shreveport fire crews battled a second apartment fire in the city in less than 12 hours on Christmas Eve.

Firefighters were called to the Towne Oaks South Apartment complex in the 7800 block of Youree Drive at 7:31 p.m. Tuesday and arrived 5 minutes later to find smoke and flames coming from the window of a downstairs apartment. SFD Assistant Chief Fred Sanders says fire crews were able to quickly extinguish the flames bring the incident under control by 7:49 PM. There were no reported injuries.

Fire investigators determined the fire originated in apartment #507 and caused minor smoke damage to an adjacent apartment. There was no one home when the fire was reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A 2-alarm fire at the Country Club West Apartments Tuesday morning left 8 families without homes. The Shreveport Fire Department says investigators determined that fire originated on the balcony of apartment #302.  Although the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, the occupant told investigators that he used a smoker on the balcony the previous evening but removed ashes from the smoker only 45 minutes before to the report of the fire.
