Two years after their mother and wife passed away from ovarian cancer, and Iowa family received an unforgettable gift from their loved one.
Brenda Schmitz's story proves a woman's love for her family is much stronger than the cancer that took her life two years.
Before Brenda passed, she gave a friend a note that was to be delivered to a Des Moines radio station if her husband, David, ever chose to re-marry.
Brenda wrote the letter to KSTZ "Star" 102.5 FM's Christmas Wish program, which grants a select number of Christmas wishes every year.
Brenda's friend anonymously mailed the letter after, in September, David asked Jayne Abraham to marry him. On Thursday, radio host Colleen Kelly read that letter to David.
Brenda had three wishes: a massage for David's fiancée; a magical trip for the whole family to create lifelong memories; and recognition for the team of doctors and nurses who took care of her at Mercy Medical Center.
"My reason for writing is this. I have a wish. I have a wish for David, the boys, and the woman and her family if she has kids also. I want them to know I love them very much," Brenda wrote in the letter.
The radio station is sending the family of eight to Disney World, scheduling a massage for Jayne at Disney World, and organizing catered food drops for Brenda's doctors and nurses.
