SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

The Coats for Kids program handed out hundreds of coats on Wednesday afternoon during their Teacher Distribution. The program is still collecting coats and gearing up for the Public Distribution on January 4th, 2013.

Teachers and parents from Caddo Parish and Bossier Parish schools picked out coats for students in need.

"We work together to provide the needs to the students at the school," says Parent Teacher Association Member Umica Scott.

Scott is picking out coats for students at Westwood Elementary School along with coats for her own kids.

"It makes me feel good that the community can provide this for my kid when I am not able to," says Umica Scott.

The program is gearing up for the Public Distribution on January 4th.

"It's a wonderful feeling to see a young student come get a coat, who needs a coat, and appreciates that coat," says D.J. Roman with Goodwill Industries.

You can donate to our Coats for Kids campaign before January 4th. You can drop off your new or gently used coats to KSLA News 12 at 1812 Fairfield Ave in Shreveport. There are also drop-off locations at Porter's Cleaners locations.
