East Texas church holding memorial service for Ray Price
MOUNT PLEASANT, TX (KLTV) -
A celebration of the life of Ray Price will be held on Saturday, December 21 at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church on Highway 49 East in Mt. Pleasant. The service is open to the public.
The auditorium only seats 850 people, with additional overflow seating for 100 in the choir loft.
There will be another celebration of life ceremony on December 28 in Dallas at Restland Memorial Chapel at 13005 Greenville Avenue. That service begins at 3:30 p.m.
Price died on Monday at the age of 87 after a long battle with cancer.
Before he died, Price left a final message for his fans:
"I love my fans and have devoted my life to reaching out to them. I appreciate their support all these years and I hope I haven't let them down. I am at peace. I love Jesus. I'm going to be just fine. Don't worry about me. I'll see you again one day."
Dubbed the "Cherokee Cowboy," Price was best known for his country classics, including Release Me, Crazy Arms and For the Good Times.
His body was taken to Restland Funeral Home in Dallas. Funeral arrangements are still pending.
