TEXARKANA, AR (KSLA) -

The state fire marshal in Texarkana, Arkansas is investigating how the body of a man found hours after a blaze Tuesday night wasn't discovered until the following morning.

Firefighters battled the blaze after the first call came in around 9:30 p.m. to the home in the 1400 block of Rose Street. The body of David Bird, 49, wasn't discovered until nearly 10 hours after the fire was out.

Now, Bird's family wants to know why it took so long. "I am really concerned why they didn't find him last night, and we called them back. They didn't come on their own. We called them back out there. They didn't even come on their own this morning to check again."

Texarkana Arkansas Fire Marshal Stephen Johnson said emergency crews searched the house, but another person at the scene assured them no one else was in the burning building.

The cause of the fire and under investigation. Bird's body has been sent to Little Rock for an autopsy.
