Witness recalls chilling moments during video store robbery

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

One of the witnesses to a recent armed robbery at a Shreveport video game store says the sight of a man wielding an AR-15 style rifle was surreal, and the surveillance video is chilling.

Shreveport police say the man went into the Game Xchange at 6565 Youree Drive armed with an AR-15 style rifle just before 3 p.m. on Friday, December 6 and robbed the business.

"I was like, is this really happening?" recalls store manager Chris Collins. "Initially, I thought it was a joke, but then he started pointing it at people and it turned into...This is no joke."

Collins says he's replaying these moments in his mind over and over, as he wondered to himself, "Is it real? Is it fake? If something does happen to me what's going to happen to the other people in the store? Are they going to get hurt."

Luckily no one was hurt physically, but customers were shaken. You can see in the surveillance video a customer complying with the gunman's demands and lies on the floor. "It's very traumatic anytime someone comes in unexpectedly and points a weapon in your face," said James Taliaferro with the Shreveport Police Department.

"It was one of those situations where it was out of everyone's hands," says Collins.

The gunman can be seen grabbing the cash out of the till before running out of the store.

"Gives us great concern because typically we're used to handguns," said Taliaferro.

Police are still asking for the public's help identifying this man. "There's really not a lot of characteristics we can pull out as far as facial," says Taliaferro. "We're asking the public to look at the clothing, even the weapon, not everyone carries an AR-15 type weapon around."

Crimestoppers is offering a $500 reward. If you have any information, call Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373.
