Traffic is moving again on I-20 in Bossier City after police shut it down due to a multi-car accident and spilled diesel fuel.
The accident happened mid-Monday morning near the Airline Drive exit behind Pierre Bossier Mall. Bossier City Public Information Officer Mark Natale said it looked like diesel fuel had spilled onto I-20 westbound at the Airline Drive exit, down the highway and into Shreveport. Police think the crash happened when westbound vehicles hit the diesel fuel and spun out of control.
As of 1:40 p.m., traffic was allowed back onto the highway. Police had been detouring drivers off the interstate at the Industrial Drive exit and onto Highway 80.
Natale said the accident involved about a dozen vehicles. Two people with minor injuries were taken to the hospital by Bossier City paramedics.
Shreveport Police later found the 18-wheeler on the side of the road. The truck's driver had pulled over after noticing the leak coming from one of the truck's side tanks. Natale said it looks like the fuel tank began leaking after it was hit by debris. The driver of the truck was not ticketed.
